Graduated in Chemistry, with a Master’s degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Vigo, I joined the BIOSUV group in February 2014 to participate in various national and European projects and undertake a research stay at the University of Porto. My research was focused on improving Advanced Oxidation Processes (AOPs) for wastewater treatment. I achieved significant advancements in optimizing these processes through my expertise in catalyst synthesis and reactor configuration, putting special attention on radiation application, starting a new research line, which I lead, on BIOSUV group. This research led to the completion of my International Doctoral Thesis in November 2018, for which I received the award for the best doctoral thesis from the University of Vigo, Campus del Agua and the AOPs school award. I realized this PhD thanks to getting a competitive FPI scholarship from the Spanish Ministry, which allowed me an additional year of postdoctoral research at the BIOSUV group, including a research stay at the Porto Institute of Engineering.
Subsequently, I seized the opportunity to continue my desired research career by obtaining a competitive postdoctoral contract from the Xunta de Galicia, enabling me to work from October 2019 to April 2022 at the International Iberian Nanotechnology Laboratory, a multidisciplinary center where my expertise expanded. In this period, my focus shifted from AOPs to electrochemical water splitting processes, specifically the generation of H2 for its usage as renewable fuel.
Currently at BIOSUV, I have created this new research line, and I endeavor to integrate both AOPs and H2 production processes, as I firmly believe in their potential to contribute to social improvement.
Throughout my scientific career, I have attained a total of 208,406.8 € in competitive research grants. I have presented 63 communications at national and international conferences, being invited speaker at 6 of them. I have authored 28 scientific articles, 2 book chapters, and am currently awaiting the evaluation of a patent. Out of these publications, I am the first author in 66.7% of them, and the second on 30%. I have acted as corresponding author in 50 % of them, highlighting my research independency. Moreover, 75% of these publications are Q1, while the remaining are Q2, demonstrating the high quality of the research performed. Over the years, I have contributed to various research projects funded by the Xunta de Galicia, the Spanish Ministry, and European initiatives (Horizon 2020). I serve as the Principal Investigator for various national and international projects, attaining a total funding of 251,108 €. Moreover, I have stablished several contacts with enterprises which contribute to my actual research and the current projects (collaborative private-public project call of the Spanish Minister and the application to a Horizon 2020 project).
